The Law Office of Ronald L. Kuby aggressively represents clients in a wide range of criminal matters, in both the federal and state courts, at trial, appellate and post-conviction phases.
The firm has handled a broad array of criminal cases: RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act), conspiracies, narcotics, weapons, frauds and misallocations, and crimes of violence such as murder, manslaughter, mass-sexual abuse, and assault, to name only a few. We have litigated countless state post-trial motions (C.P.L. Section 440) and federal habeas corpus cases.
Ronald L. Kuby is one of the most well-known and well-regarded practitioners in the field of criminal defense. Mr. Kuby has successfully defended hundreds of clients facing serious criminal charges, from murder, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, felony assault and robbery charges; to white collar crimes such as money laundering and organized crime allegations; to criminal conspiracies; and international terrorism charges.
We are practiced trial and appellate lawyers. We also represent clients who have been subpoenaed or are under investigation by law enforcement. Frequently, we are able to resolve cases before they are even indicted, limiting our clients’ exposure to criminal penalties.
Representative cases include: Sheikh Rahman, accused of bombing the World Trade Center; Colin Ferguson, the Long Island Railroad gunman; accused airplane hijackers; Malcolm X’s daughter, charged with conspiracy to murder Minister Louis Farrakahn; Jesse Friedman, whose story is featured in the acclaimed film Capturing the Friedmans; dozens of conscientious objectors, from all four branches of the military, charged with desertion for refusal to fight; several wrongful conviction cases, including Antony Faison and Charles Shepard who spent 14 years in prison for a crime they didn’t commit (resulting in a multi-million dollar verdict).
The Law Office of Ronald L. Kuby vigorously represents clients in all manner of civil rights violations. Our practice includes significant experience in handling cases involving false arrests and malicious prosecutions, police misconduct and brutality, First Amendment violations, employment discrimination and retaliation, and racial, religious, and sexual orientation discrimination.
Our clientele is diverse and all-encompassing, and we enjoy an outstanding reputation among lawyers and judges. We represent private individuals, government employees (municipal workers, teachers, police officers, firefighters, etc.), artists and entertainers among others. We pride ourselves on our deep and abiding commitment to our clients and the rule of law, and philosophically believe that the Constitution knows no boundaries when it comes to matters of race, religion, sexual orientation, status and wealth.
It was our firm’s commitment to social justice that led to one of the highest jury awards in New York State history: An historic $43 million jury verdict against Bernard Hugo Goetz, the notorious subway gunman who gunned down four young Black men in 1984. Ronald Kuby represented Darryl Cabey, who Goetz shot after uttering the now famous words, “You look all right. Here’s another.” The bullet severed Darryl’s spine, rendering him a paraplegic and resulting in brain damage.
Other federal civil rights cases include litigated by our attorneys includes representation of renowned photographer Spencer Tunick whose First Amendment rights were trampled upon by authorities intent on banning his photography of mass-nudes in public; our representation of Anthony Faison and Charles Shepard who spent 14 years in prison for a crime they did not commit (resulting in a multi-million dollar verdict); our representation of Muslim police officers disciplined for having facial hair; our representation of private clubs subject to illegal searches and seizures; among many others.
